I am amazed that our ministers who claim to be concerned with the affects of knife crimes have not come up with the simplest of solutions. PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. So if the police were able to spend time patrolling the streets therefore be more visible, then maybe the kids would think twice before carrying a knife, just in case they were stopped and searched? Logically increased presence of street patrols would reduce other petty crimes too. I think if the chance of being caught is increased then they would be less ikely to take the risk. Common sense ?

Too right....Visibility does work.  I think it instills confidence for most folk and serves as a deterrent.  It also show that "society" cares....
A police caron a motorway (or anything with reflective stripes certainly slows the speeds....

Hi I am new here, I saw the ad in the Heathrow Villager so thought I would have a look. I live in Stanwell Village and this weekend have had to "dodge" a quad bike being ridden by three or four teenage girls with no crash helmets in Oaks Road Park, my daughter is only 2 years old and we were forced out of the park due to these kids on the quad bike. If there were more "Bobby's on the beat" it would surely prevent these kids being able to freely break the law. I am a grown woman and fear being able to tell these kids to sling there hooks as you just dont know these days what these kids are capable of. Its a sad state of affairs when children cannot play in the park because of older ones spoiling it for them. I have lived in stanwell my whole life but am now starting to want to move out.

Hi Lucy
I had the same issue in the Long Lane Rec.  Loads of quads.  Some signs went up, but i still see quads and dirt bikes and riders with no crash helmets.
I dunno what the solution is but it strikes me that  first we must make the parks more difficult for Quads and bikes to get into
I think Community Wardens, like Mick Raynor, could be the solution.  A uniform does deter wrong doers.
What about CCTV?  I am pretty neutral about them, there are pros and cons, but one thing is that offenders should have have their machines confiscated, if only for a time.

Please don't leave yet.  If we manage to get some people onto the council who will speak up for Stanwell things will improve.  There are one or two who might...

There is a fantastic community spirit in Stanwell, and we must use this to effect change.  Little bits and pieces help.  THere should be little tollerence of anti social behaviour.

Having said thatis there somewhere local that peole could use their quads legally and causing little disturbance.

I know of Mick Raynor, he has done a fantastic job in Stanwell and he really has made a difference, so I think more Wardens like him could really help. There has always been a shortage of places for young people to go in Stanwell, I think Lauser Park has a bike track and shelter but this is for pushbikes and skateboards, in my humble opinion I feel it falls to the Parents of these kids to ensure that they are using these motorbikes responsibily and in the correct places, but more often than not the parents do not think these things through before they purchase these things for their kids and then they cannot be bothered to spend the time with their kids when they use these bikes. I am unsure on CCTV, I think a physical presence of a community warden or special constables would probably have a bigger impact than a cctv camera. There are usually 2 or 3 park keepers on site at Oaks Road park but I think even the park keepers are too scared to shoo the kids away. Stanwell Village is so pretty but we seem to have inherited a harsh reputation which I do not feel that Stanwell deserves, the majority of Stanwellians are decent people.

Sorry for the delay in the response.  i have been to Hayling Island with the Kids
Hope your day was nice
I share your reservations about CCTV, these quads don't carry number plates anyway.  Community Wardens seem to be the way to go, as they are supposed to be multi talented.  mick is exactly that.
As for reputation you are right.  Stanwell is an incredibly pretty village (in parts).  However, I do think that in parts it is showing signs of neglect...
There is a huge element of responsibility.  But relying solely on parental responsibility doesn't work, I fear.  THe trouble is it's the rest of us who have to bear the failures of a lack of Parental Responsibility.
Spend a bit of effort all around to improve the appearence and show that it is cared for and i think Pride  takes over in a good way.  It is a partnership between the residents as individuals, local interest groups and statutory bodies (like the council and police).  When things go wrong, even not by much, there is a danger that everyone freezes.
A bit like drivers at mini roundabouts all stoppped because they don't know who goes next
